Description

Team Golf: A Century of Competition, Connection, and Camaraderie explores the transformative shift of golf from a solitary pursuit to a multidisciplinary team sport. Dr. Michael Mignano traces a century of evolution, from grassroots programs like the PGA Jr. League to the high-stakes professional arenas of the Ryder Cup and TGL. The book examines the “modern entourage”—the coaches, trainers, and mental experts powering today’s elite players—while celebrating the profound human connections forged on the course. Ultimately, it is a testament to the game’s shift from “me” to “we,” proving that the true heart of golf lies in togetherness.

Dr. Michael Mignano is a lecturer in the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan. He specializes as a teacher and researcher related to the psychosocial aspects of sport and physical activity and consults with athletes, coaches, and sport organizations on mental performance. Dr. Mignano is a former collegiate golf coach, PGA Professional, and caddie. He has served as the Head Golf Coach for Team Michigan at the Special Olympics USA Games in 2014 and 2022. Dr. Mignano is currently the National Golf Coach for Athletes Without Limits, helping expand golf opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
