Announcements, Espresso Book Machine

UPDATE: Please note that as of 5/1/2016, the Library no longer offers the EBM service. This post is retained for archival purposes only.

We’re excited to announce new functionality within the Library’s online catalog (Mirlyn) that allows patrons to place orders for printing on the Espresso Book Machine (EBM) and pay online with a credit card, directly from Mirlyn. More than 600,000 Mirlyn records (representing more than 2 million public domain volumes) now feature a special icon labeled “Reprint available for purchase”, which lets users know that a particular item can be printed on the Library’s Espresso Book Machine. Simply click the “Buy a reprint” link within those catalog records and complete the secure online payment form. The book will be added automatically to the EBM’s print queue, and you will receive an email confirmation of the order. Once your book is printed, you’ll receive an email letting you know your book is ready for pick up.

If you’d like to limit your searches within Mirlyn to only those titles that can be printed using the new automated ordering, go to Advanced search, enter your search criteria, and check the box labeled “Limit to items with a reprint available for purchase” under the “Limit To:” section. Alternatively, to see the complete list of all items available as EBM reprints, simply check the “Limit to…” box and click “Find” without entering any search criteria.

During this first phase of the service, all orders will need to be picked up in person at the Shapiro Library circulation desk, but plans are underway to eventually offer shipping options so that anyone may purchase books and have them delivered by UPS or US mail.

**Please note that this new service is simply additional functionality for EBM book ordering. It is intended to supplement, but not replace, the order methods already in place. You are not limited to requesting only those titles flagged in Mirlyn.**

We hope this new service makes it more convenient to identify and purchase available public domain titles! Please direct any questions to orders-ebm@umich.edu.
