Announcements, Espresso Book Machine

UPDATE: Please note that as of 5/1/2016, the Library no longer offers the EBM service. This post is retained for archival purposes only.

Espresso Book Machine at U-M logoOver the holiday break, the University of Michigan Library installed a new, state-of-the-art Espresso Book Machine (EBM). The new machine replaces our previous 1.5 beta machine, and offers several important advantages, including increased printing speed (from 33 ppm to 110 ppm), higher quality output, local service support, the ability to bind higher page-count volumes, and fewer unusable or waste books.

The machine, which is located on the first floor of the Shapiro Library near the Tech Deck, can be used to print public domain and copyright-cleared content for classroom or personal use, including textbooks, dissertations and theses, journals, conference proceedings, creative writing anthologies, and self-publishing projects, to name just a few examples. We’re still getting accustomed to the new machine, and are in the process of updating the website and developing new services and marketing programs, so you’ll be hearing much more about the EBM in the weeks to come. To discuss possible uses of the machine, please contact Terri Geitgey tgeitgey@umich.edu or lib-ebm@umich.edu.
