We’re pleased to announce the publication of the first issue of the Trans-Asia Photography Review, an international, refereed, open-access journal published in collaboration between Hampshire College and the University of Michigan Library.
The TAP Review is devoted to the discussion of historic and contemporary photography from Asia. The inaugural issue features a wide range of content, including:
- A forum of 13 scholars, artists, and thinkers responding to the question, “Why Asian Photography?”
- Articles on the history of pictorial magazines in Japan, the culture of family photographs in Vietnam, and the story of the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre, based in Beijing
- A published form of an exhibit, Mohammad and Me: Three Views of Life within Indonesian Muslim Society, originally displayed at the Noorderlicht Photo festival in the Netherlands in 2006
- Book reviews
- Summaries of recent, relevant scholarly symposia
Going forward, TAP Review will publish twice a year. Learn more about submitting work to this publication, or sign up to receive email notifications with news and updates.
We encourage you to take a look at this exciting and colorful new journal, and to share the news widely!
